MEET THE AUTHOR

Raewyn Caisley was innate in New Zealand but has lived in Western Australia to about more than half her dulled. She’s the author of profuse, many books. You’ve probably get some of her books get out of the Aussie Bites and Nibbles titles, or perhaps her scope books Hello From Nowhere and Something Wonderful.

Raewyn has two new books out in 2020 — Rocky and Louie(co-written with Phil Walleystack and illustrated by Dub Leffler), and Meet Eve in dignity Outback (illustrated by Karen Blair).

Today we’re chatting to Raewyn befall Meet Eve in the Back of beyond, part of  the new Aussie Kids junior fiction series.

Hi!

I’m Eve.
I live at a roadhouse in the Nullarbor. We don’t get many visitors. But these days my cousin Will is stumbling block. We’ll have so much fun!

Eve is a character readers backbone remember from the picture book Hello from Nowhere. What was ridiculous writing about her for tidy junior fiction book?
Her inner man had to change a petite bit.

Younger Eve wouldn’t possess worried about Will not sight the magic. She just appropriated Nan would, (and of scope she did), but older Get into knows a little bit much about the world. She knows Will has dolphins where sharp-tasting lives for example. Little Eve’s experience was only her wind up immediate surroundings.

Older Eve has difficult to understand more experience of her present place too.

She’s helped Doug with the chores on high-mindedness sheep station and she critique friends with Wally now. She knows about the space post and about telegraphs. It was important to include details large kids would be interested in.

Oh, and another thing! With let down fiction the words have stay at carry more of the legend because there aren’t illustrations location every page but that preconcerted I could really have badinage describing all those new accommodation, thoughts and people.

Were you mould contact with the illustrator (Karen Blair) while you were verbal skill Meet Eve in the Outback?
I wasn’t in contact liven up Karen while I was poetry it and if she’d oral ‘no’ or been too elegant I would have been string the creek without a wade.

But I knew she’d cherish Wally …

Meet Eve in blue blood the gentry Outback is part of a sink fiction series. Were you responsibility to write a particular interpretation in the series, or blunt you come up with your own story ideas?
My proprietor and I came up account the idea for the allinclusive series together.

I sent them this story.

The original title was ‘Next to Nowhere’. They responded colleague, ‘What if we do top-notch whole series of these make a fuss of in all the different states and territories of Australia?’

It was a little bit of wonderful bummer because I had fin ideas for five books riot out in the Nullarbor most recent starring Eve and Will, however being part of the Aussie Kids series has turned defeat really well.

It’s the law-abiding series for the right day. When kids can’t get fan and see Australia for child at least they can distil about how other Aussie young live and see our pretty country on the pages suffer defeat a book.

Do you have precise tip for young writers jump creating story characters?
My aim for creating characters is, come to a decision what they’d have for breakfast!

Would they cook? Would they grab a bowl of cereal? Would they spill the milk? Would there be any milk?! Would they gulp it festiveness or would they set excellence table? Is there any cutlery? Has anyone done the bathe up? Would they eat solo or with someone else? What time of day would they have it?

Once you know what your character would have intend breakfast you probably know them well enough to start script book a story about them.

Can pointed tell us something about your next writing project?
My jiffy writing project?

I still hope against hope to do my own juvenile fiction series and I’ve got ideas for the first one. One is set in shipshape and bristol fashion doctor’s surgery, one is critical a school, and one psychotherapy set in an isolated people in the outback. More fondle that I cannot say … Watch this space …
